“In Kibitkas through Snow…” Faithful Wives and Fragile Masculinity in the Late Soviet Jewish Movement

چکیده

The article explores the participation of women in Jewish national movement: their family roles, activism and images narratives movement. sources scholarship movement often mentioned an important role its women. However, for all great numbers these women, they were not seen as independent actors: struggle was husbands sons. Activism self–sacrifice notwithstanding, viewed that helpers, this fact has been articulated natural. movement’s rhetoric is patrilineal, activists linked consciousness with fathers, learned language fathers desired to go fatherland. As a result, synchronically diachronically, new nation constructed predominantly male community, faithful women–helpers’ presence remained at background confirmed activists’ heroic self–image made it possible create desirable masculinity cunny fearless fighters against regime.
